Job Description

The Department of Accounting & Finance at the University of Alaska Anchorage invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor of Accounting positions, with an anticipated start date of August 2026.

All areas of accounting will be considered; however, the department has critical needs in Financial, Tax, Managerial/Cost, and Governmental/Non-for-Profit Accounting. Faculty are expected to teach in at least two areas (e.g., Financial and Managerial/Cost). A successful candidate will teach courses in the BBA Accounting program and may also contribute to graduate, associate-level, or certificate programs in Accounting. These roles include responsibilities in (1) teaching, (2) research, and (3) providing professional service to the university, the profession/discipline, and the community.

UAA is a comprehensive public institution with a main campus in Anchorage, supported by community campuses and extension sites across Alaska. The College of Business and Public Policy is accredited by AACSB and offers BBA degrees in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, Business and Data Analytics, and Marketing, along with MBA, MPA, and MPP programs, associate degrees, and occupational endorsement certificates in Accounting and related fields. The college also houses an experimental economics lab, ADSAIL (Advanced Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab), and a Finance computer lab, along with several research and economic development centers focused on international business, small business, and regional economic policy.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff, and students from a wide range of backgrounds, and strong interpersonal and communication skills. Experience or interest in online instruction, as well as professional certification (such as CPA or CMA) or relevant industry experience, is highly desirable. Faculty represent the department within the university and broader community while contributing to a collaborative and supportive academic environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D., or DBA from an AACSB-accredited school or equivalent with an emphasis in Accounting or a closely related field. Candidates who are ABD may be considered if they provide evidence that degree completion will occur six months prior to the hire date.

For candidates interested in teaching taxation, the terminal degree could be: (1) an LLM in taxation and a CPA; or (2) a JD or LLB with an accounting master’s degree.

AACSB’s Post-Doctoral Bridge Program graduates will be considered.

Evidence of research potential or a research agenda is required.

Professional certification (CPA, CMA) and/or work experience in accounting is desirable.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage in Anchorage, Alaska. Applicants must be able to relocate to Anchorage, Alaska by the position start date.  This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track, faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package .
