IoT Product Owner

Reports To: Director of Product Owners

Location: Remote - Atlanta, GA

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Product Owner to join our dynamic Product team at M-Tech Systems. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in driving the success of our products. You’ll own the end-to-end lifecycle of your product line, from discovery to delivery, ensuring that each feature or solution aligns with customer needs and business goals. This role requires a strategic thinker with a customer-first mindset who can collaborate across departments, lead product development efforts, and deliver measurable outcomes.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Strategic Product Ownership:

• Lead strategy for one or more complex product domains aligned with business and customer goals.
• Define multi-quarter product vision and roadmap; drive executive buy-in and cross-functional alignment.
• Identify and evaluate emerging industry trends and technologies to guide long-term product direction.

Interface and Platform Leadership:

• Partner with UX, engineering, and architecture teams to shape scalable, modern user interfaces.
• Ensure usability standards, accessibility, and responsive design principles are upheld across interfaces.

Custom and Scalable Solutions Development:

• Architect frameworks for scalable report and dashboard development across customers and geographies.
• Identify reusability patterns and contribute to component libraries or template libraries for efficiency.

Customer Insight and Market Analysis:

• Lead advanced voice-of-customer efforts including interviews, site visits, and e research.
• Benchmark industry solutions and synthesize global market trends into actionable insights.

Cross-Functional Influence:

• Drive product alignment across development, customer success, marketing, and executive leadership.
• Mentor junior product owners and influence standards for requirements documentation, roadmaps, and ceremonies.

Advanced Prioritization & Portfolio Management:

• Implement scalable prioritization frameworks (e.g., RICE, MoSCoW) for backlog refinement across teams.
• Manage multiple product streams while optimizing return on investment (ROI) across the portfolio.

Requirements & Delivery Leadership:

• Write epics and high-fidelity user stories; own backlog quality and delivery readiness.
• Collaborate with QA, UX, and engineering leads to ensure completeness and testability of features.

Data-Driven Optimization:

• Define product success metrics; leverage dashboards, heatmaps, and funnel analysis to optimize adoption.
• Run A/B or multivariate experiments to test new features and iterate based on outcomes.

Experience working with IoT ecosystems

• Understanding of connected devices, sensor networks, telemetry data, device health, and how hardware integrates with cloud platforms. Ability to translate hardware data into product decisions and collaborate effectively with data science and engineering on ingestion and processing.

Vendor and hardware partner management experience

• Comfortable coordinating with external hardware vendors, including managing API integrations, understanding technical documentation, ensuring data quality, and driving accountability across multiple partners.

Executive Stakeholder Management:

• Act as product spokesperson and escalation point for critical customer and partner relationships.

Agile & Continuous Improvement Leadership:

• Champion Agile best practices, drive improvements in velocity, quality, and team morale.
• Coach cross-functional teams on iterative development and lean thinking.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
• 5+ years of product development for software experience
• Experience in SaaS, data platforms, or enterprise software.
• Poultry, Agriculture, food production industry experience/knowledge is preferred

Preferred Personal Skills/Abilities

• Strong understanding of designing and optimizing user interfaces for custom software solutions. API experience is also preferred.
• Proven experience in developing, customizing, and deploying software-generated reports.
• Clear communication with stakeholders, development team, and other departments is essential.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and features based on business value and customer needs.
• Leadership skills to guide the development team and ensure alignment with the product vision.
• Aptitude for identifying and solving problems that arise during the development process.
• Negotiation skills to manage conflicting interests and reach consensus among stakeholders.
• Focus on understanding and advocating for the needs of end-users to ensure the product meets their requirements.
• Ability to adapt to changing requirements, priorities, and market conditions.
• Analytical mindset to interpret data and feedback to make informed decisions about the product roadmap and features.
• Collaboration with cross-functional teams including developers, designers, testers, and marketers to deliver a successful product.

• Ability to identify and mitigate risks throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Effective time management skills to meet deadlines and deliverables within the project timeline.

Required Technical Skills/Abilities

• Familiarity with software development processes, methodologies (such as Agile), and technologies to facilitate effective communication with the development team.
• Understanding of UI/UX principles to ensure the product meets user needs and provides a seamless experience.
• Ability to interpret data and analytics to make informed decisions about the product roadmap and features.
• Familiarity with common development tools and platforms used in software development projects, such as version control systems (e.g., Git), project management tools (e.g., Devops, Jira), and collaboration platforms (e.g., MS Teams, Wrike, Slack).
• Proficiency in writing technical documentation, user stories, and product requirements to effectively communicate with the development team and stakeholders.
• Basic understanding of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and integration concepts to coordinate with external systems and services if necessary.
• Understanding of QA principles and processes to ensure product quality and reliability.
• Awareness of basic cybersecurity principles and best practices to address security concerns in the product development lifecycle.
• Basic understanding of databases and data storage concepts to collaborate effectively with database administrators and developers.
  
• Familiarity with mobile and web technologies to understand the technical requirements and constraints of developing software for different platforms.
• Knowledge of troubleshooting and technical support processes to address user issues and provide feedback for product improvements.

Travel Requirements

• Up to 5 days every 2-3 months of domestic and international travel required for direct interaction with customers to see the product in action.
