The Nashville Tree Conservation Corps (NTCC) is seeking a passionate, strategic Policy Chair to lead our advocacy work in 2025. With environmental protections under pressure and rapid development threatening our urban tree canopy, NTCC needs a focused policy lead to shape
and drive our next chapter of impact.
The Policy Chair will help the board identify and champion a clear, bold policy strategy—whether that’s advancing anti-clear-cutting legislation, curbing harmful zoning variances, or incentivizing tree-friendly development practices. This role is ideal for someone with a strong point of view, fresh energy, and the determination to influence change in a challenging political climate.
About NTCC
Nashville Tree Conservation Corps works to promote, preserve, protect, and plant tree canopy in Davidson County through policy and large tree planting projects.
Accomplishments include working with Metro Council to pass bills that protect mature trees and set new standards for tree-density replacement requirements and, in a case that drew national attention, negotiating with the Nashville Symphony to save trees at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, where a huge flock of purple martins had roosted.
We are also known for our Annual Tree Sale that delivers hundreds of locally grown trees to Nashville homeowners each year, as well as large planting projects such as the Shelby Avenue Arboretum.
● Lead development of NTCC’s annual policy strategy in collaboration with the board.
● Build relationships with local and state officials; ensure NTCC is represented in policy discussions.
● Advise and coach the Executive Director on policy messaging.
● Coordinate strategy implementation with the Board Secretary; ensure follow-through.
● Stay current on relevant legislation, research, and political developments.
We welcome candidates from two primary backgrounds:
1. Government or Advocacy Experience – A former elected official, lobbyist, or civic advocate with the relationships and savvy to move policy ideas forward. Someone eyeing a future in public office may also find this role rewarding and aligned with their goals.
2. Urban Forestry Expertise – A subject matter expert who stays current on research and can help ground our advocacy in compelling data and best practices.
