Job Description

EPIC Early Learning is currently seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Volunteers to join our team at all EPIC locations. As a private, nonprofit organization, EPIC has been working hand-in-hand with children and families to provide early childhood educational services that strengthen our Central Washington communities for over 35 years. Our mission is to ensure that every child has the best possible start in life by creating a nurturing and supportive environment that promotes their emotional, social, and intellectual growth.

As a Volunteer, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the meaningful work of our organization by assisting in various tasks that support the operation of our centers. This may include administrative support, janitorial support, classroom assistant and more. We value the unique skills and talents that volunteers bring, and we provide opportunities for personal and professional growth through training and support.

Responsibilities

Administrative Support

  1. Performing receptionist duties, including greeting the public, answering incoming phone calls, properly screening calls, and transferring or taking messages.
  2. Providing copy services to support the staff.
  3. Performing various office duties such as filing, typing, keyboarding, mail handling, and collating.
  4. Assisting with special projects and events.
  5. Demonstrating a commitment to promoting a culture of safety within our centers, playgrounds, buses, and any area where children may be present. Familiarity with and encouragement of EPICs culture of "See Something, Say Something".

Janitorial Assistant

  1. Assist with the upkeep of the building by cleaning classrooms, offices, restrooms, kitchen, and hallways.
  2. Perform tasks such as sweeping and mopping floors, as well as vacuuming carpets.
  3. Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, and countertops.
  4. Regularly empty trash cans.
  5. Be dedicated to promoting a culture of safety throughout our centers, playgrounds, buses, and any other areas where children may be present. Familiarize yourself with and encourage the adoption of EPIC's "See Something, Say Something" culture.

Classroom Assistant

  1. Engage and interact with children.
  2. Support the teaching team in implementing classroom activities.
  3. Assist children with proper hand washing.
  4. Help with cleaning tasks before and after mealtime.
  5. Maintain a safe and nurturing environment by assisting with classroom cleanup.
  6. Prepare materials and supplies as instructed by the teaching team.
  7. Promote a culture of safety for children in all settings, including centers, playgrounds, and buses. Familiarize yourself with and encourage the principles of EPICs' "See Something, Say Something" culture.

Food Service

  1. Assist with the safe and sanitary preparation of food.

  2. Help set up carts for classrooms or export.

  3. Assist in washing, scraping, and cleaning dishes.

  4. Help maintain kitchen surfaces in a sanitary manner.

  5. Be committed to promoting a culture of safety in our centers, playgrounds, buses, and any location where children may be present. Familiarize and encourage EPIC's culture of "See Something, Say Something".

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Strong passion for early childhood education and child development
  • Ability to follow instructions and work well as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliability and dedication to volunteering consistently
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with EPIC’s staff, parents and children.
  • Articulate EPIC’s mission, values and demonstrate commitment to mission, values and policies in the performance of daily duties.
  • Adhere to the values that reflect the working culture at EPIC; honoring and modeling these values as duties are carried out on a daily basis.
  • Communicate effectively by sharing concerns openly and honestly with appropriate staff members.  Observe confidentiality in all dealings related to program, staff and families.
