Homework Hotline provides free, one-on-one tutoring and academic support to K–12 students and their families across Tennessee. By delivering help through phone, chat, and online whiteboard, we ensure every student—regardless of zip code, background, or resources—can get the support they need to thrive in school.

Position: Volunteer Board Member

Term Length: 3 Years
Commitment: ~6 board meetings per year + committee work, events, and advocacy
Location: Tennessee-based preferred; remote/hybrid participation welcome

We are seeking mission-driven individuals to join our Board of Directors and help lead Homework Hotline into its next chapter. Board members play a critical role in ensuring organizational health, expanding community reach, and maintaining the integrity of our mission.

Job Responsibilities

Board Member Responsibilities

Board members provide leadership, oversight, and strategic guidance to fulfill Homework Hotline’s mission. During your tenure, you agree to:

  • Believe in and support the mission of Homework Hotline.
  • Prepare for, attend, and actively participate in at least 75% of board meetings, typically held on the 3rd Wednesday of August, November, February, April, May, and June.
  • Serve on committees, participate in task groups, and attend major events or programs.
  • Make a personal financial contribution by December 15 each fiscal year.
  • Support and engage in fundraising activities.
  • Identify and cultivate donors, sponsors, and sources of financial support.
  • Help formulate and adopt organizational policies and guide strategic direction.
  • Approve and evaluate organizational performance and long-term goals.
  • Adopt and monitor the operating budget and fundraising plan.
  • Safeguard the organization’s assets and uphold fiduciary responsibility.
  • Stay informed on key issues impacting the organization and its stakeholders.
  • Serve as a public representative and advocate for Homework Hotline.
  • Participate in the selection and evaluation of the Executive Director, as appropriate.
  • Follow the organization’s Conflict of Interest Policy and ethical standards.
