Psychiatrist – Specialty Mental Health
Location: Berkeley, California
Position Type: Part-Time (2 days/week) or Full-Time
Salary Range: $149,760 – $166,400 DOE

Position Overview

A Psychiatrist is needed to deliver specialty mental health services. This role includes psychiatric evaluations, individualized treatment planning, and collaborative care with an integrated team. The position supports patients with complex needs through both medication management and therapeutic interventions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Psychiatric Evaluation & Diagnosis

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including history-taking and mental status examinations
  • Diagnose mental health conditions using DSM-5 criteria, including within specialty areas such as trauma or child psychiatry

2. Treatment Planning & Implementation

  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans with pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches
  • Deliver individual or group therapy and respond to crises as needed

3. Medication Management

  • Prescribe and adjust psychotropic medications
  • Monitor effectiveness and side effects; perform regular medication reconciliation

4. Team Collaboration & Case Consultation

  • Coordinate care with social workers, therapists, and other providers
  • Offer psychiatric insight on complex cases and attend case conferences

5. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with HIPAA and local standards
  • Complete reports for legal or clinical purposes when required

6. Community Engagement

  • Participate in mental health outreach and education within the community
  • Stay informed about local services, resources, and best practices

Requirements

  • Medical Degree from an accredited institution; completion of psychiatric residency
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • California Medical License – active and unrestricted
  • Experience in a specialty area (e.g., child psychiatry, substance use, trauma-informed care)
  • Strong clinical judgment in assessment, diagnosis, and care planning
  • Commitment to serving diverse communities with cultural sensitivity

Work Environment

This position is based in a community health clinic and may involve travel to affiliated sites within Alameda County. The role supports a diverse patient base and works closely with integrated care teams.
