IMEG is growing, and we’d love to have you join our team!  We currently have an open position for a Senior Acoustics or Senior Audiovisual (AV) Designer in one of our key offices. As a Senior Designer, you will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead design for delivery of projects varying in complexity with minimal support required from senior staff. You will be responsible for working closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients to ensure positive outcomes. Primary responsibilities will include assisting in engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of acoustics or audiovisual systems in buildings. This position will be expected to work within the project’s monetary budget, train, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts for the analysis and development of projects across various market sectors
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly across many different audiences using narratives, diagrams, and engaging presentations
  • Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively. Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication
  • Work as part of a project team to support the execution of consulting projects. Lead efforts in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives. Document design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring project design progress as related to percent complete and fee expended
  • Coordinate design requirements within a multidisciplinary design team including executing calculations according to code requirements and industry standards, development of specification clauses, and other innovative ways of developing acoustic/audiovisual recommendations and integrated project solutions
  • Provide in-process design reviews of design deliverables. Implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure that design strategies meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards and client requirements
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies/products, and best practices. Contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager
  • Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phase, including visiting project sites for inspections, measurements, commissioning, and testing
  • Contribute to overall team success through process improvement, setting standards, contributing to resourcing, and building morale

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Proficiency of fundamentals of acoustics, fundamentals of vibration, engineering acoustics, noise control, digital signal processing, electroacoustics, human responses to acoustics and vibration (acoustics focused)
  • Proficiency of principles relating to electrical voltage and current, digital and analog signals, video signal types, video system calculations (e.g. viewing distance, screen sizing, pixel pitch, etc.), basic IT networking topologies and protocols, and sound system calculations as it relates to audiovisual (AV) systems design for buildings (audiovisual focused)
  • Ability to train, mentor, and motivate less experienced staff
  • Proficiency of industry standard acoustic / audiovisual engineering software and tools
  • Proficiency with specialist technical equipment and software such as sound level meters, vibration analyzers, 3D acoustic / electroacoustic computer modeling, digital signal processing and visual programming language audio software (e.g. Matlab, Max/MSP), 2D and 3D BIM software, 3D modeling software (Rhinoceros 3D, Sketchup)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays

Education and Experience

Acoustics :

  • Degree in acoustics or architectural engineering OR a degree in music, architecture, physics, engineering, computer science, sound reproduction, sound recording, with strong demonstrated experience in acoustics

Audiovisual:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, electroacoustics, sound recording, OR a in science, architecture, engineering, music with demonstrated coursework in electroacoustics, acoustics or related field
  • AVIXIA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) or other industry / manufacturer certifications

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience minimum required, 4+ preferred, in the building design consulting industry

Salary Range $101,000- $141,000. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
