Job Description

Summer Overnight Camp, Activity Director 

 

Under the direct supervisor of the Camp Director/Program Director, the Activity Director will provide support to the day-to-day camp operation. Responsible for assisting ropes programs, aquatic programs, teaching OEE classes and other program areas in need of support.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Organize and implement special programs each day for all age groups
  • Assist in waterfront and pool programs daily
  • Be involved in all aspects of camp life while not running the ropes program
  • Responsible to assist APD in organizing and implementing horseback riding program
  • Serve on management staff, supervise staff and share OD responsibilities
  • Assist in daily organization and implementation program
  • Assist in the implementation of the High Ropes and Climbing Tower programs when possible
  • Teach OEE Classes for skill periods each session
  • Serve as a positive role model for staff and campers; set example of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
  • Run and organize morning breakfast meetings
  • Provide leadership to staff training
  • Maintain high levels of safety standards and enforce all rules for campers and staff
  • Maintain a positive attitude and refrain from behavior that is detrimental to the staff team and staff morale. Communication is the key!
  • Keep the camp looking nice-pick up litter.
  • Deal with any staff management issues promptly – you are committing to report any staff issues to the Camp Director immediately.
  • You are expected to not ask your staff do to anything that you would not do yourself
  • Assist in conducting mid-summer and end summer evaluations for counselors

  • Ability to work with different age and skill levels of staff and campers
  • Ability to identify and respond to hazards in camp; such as emergency plan implentation (fire evacuation, illness, injury)

Child Abuse Prevention:

Supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:

  • Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
  • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
  • Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
  • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
