JD:

The Telecom Test Engineer (TDM / SONET / Analog Telephony) is responsible for designing and executing test scripts validating the performance and reliability of traditional circuit-switched telecom systems. This includes testing of TDM-based switching systems, SONET/SDH transport networks, and analog voice services. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of legacy telecommunications technologies and testing methodologies used in carrier-grade voice and transport networks.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute detailed test plans and test cases for TDM, SONET/SDH, and analog telephony systems .
• Perform functional, regression, and system testing on switching, transport, and signaling components.
• Validate interfaces such as DS0/DS1/DS3, OC-N, STM-N, and analog POTS .
• Test and verify signaling protocols including CAS (E&M, FXS/FXO) .
• Conduct SONET/SDH performance, protection, and alarm testing (e.g., BLSR, UPSR, APS).
• Use test tools and equipment such as T-BERD, Fireberd, JDSU/Viavi, Tektronix, and oscilloscopes for circuit and signal analysis.
• Capture and analyze signaling traces using protocol analyzers (e.g., Wireshark, Agilent, or specialized telecom analyzers).
• Document test procedures, maintain detailed test reports, and track defects through the issue management system.
• Collaborate with design, development, and field engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve interoperability or performance issues.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., Telcordia GR-series, ITU-T G. series, ANSI T1.105, and IEEE ) and company quality requirements.
• Participate in system integration, customer acceptance, and lab validation testing.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Education: Bachelor s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
• Experience: 3 7 years of experience testing TDM-based, SONET/SDH, or analog telephony systems.
• Strong knowledge of voice network architectures , digital hierarchy, and timing/synchronization concepts (e.g., Stratum clocks, BITS).
• Proficiency with test sets, optical power meters, time-domain reflectometers (TDRs), and cross-connect systems .
• Familiarity with signaling and channel-associated signaling protocols .
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in both lab and field environments .
• Excellent documentation, communication, and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Next Generation SONET/Packet Optical Transport (OTN, DWDM) equipment.
• Exposure to VoIP interworking with TDM or analog systems .
• Familiarity with automation scripting (Python, TCL, or similar) for test process improvement.
• Certifications such as SONET/SDH Specialist, JDSU Viavi Certified, or CCNA Voice .
